News | Guildfordians Walking Rugby Festival

Last Saturday (12th September) we hosted our annual WR festival at Stoke Park - in glorious weather. In addition to Guildfordians & Chiddingfold Wanderers (our other team), we welcomed a team from Chantries and Pewleys (club sponsors - who had had precisely 1 training session) and 12 other clubs from across the south of England - including a team that hadn't pre-registered ! Despite having to create another 6 games on the fly for the surprise team & losing a referee who was scheduled to referee all day, we coped admirably.
As it was a festival, scores were not kept by the organisers - however our teams did 5W/1D & 5W/1L (honest ref - they weren't counting).

There were 2 awards at the end of the day. The Players' Player award (voted by all teams across their various games) went to Alice (a bubbly redhead from Canterbury) whilst the TREDS award (scored by the refs) went to the Chantries and Pewleys squad. As their team captain said, they didn't know enough to be able to deliberately get anything wrong !

If you would like to give WR a go, we meet on Sundays at the club around 12:00 & on Tuesdays at the Charterhouse Club at 7:15. Be warned - it's addictive !
