Girls’ rugby is one of the fastest growing female sports since 2013 and it continues to grow across the country following the continued success of the England Women’s team The Red Roses.
We are extremely lucky to have
Leanne Infante (Riley), a current Red Rose, directing our girls section forward on and off the field as Head of Girls Rugby, Coach and club Director of Rugby.
Leanne set up the girls’ section in 2016 where we started with 25-30 girls varied from aged 7-17. We have since grown this to 75+ girls from aged 9-18, running 4-5 competitive teams in Surrey competitions.
During the 2021-2022 season our U13 girls were competitive amongst the Surrey Waterfall Cup rounds and hosted/travelled to many friendly fixtures throughout the season. They rounded the season off by being unbeaten on tour in Worcestershire and enjoyed a great team bonding cool off at Liquid Leisure this Summer.
Our U15 and U18 squads competed in the National Cup for the second year running, travelling further afield for matches and playing new squads for the first time was the ultimate adaptation test and both teams fought strongly. Our U15 made it to the quarter final, with the U18 reaching the semi-final – a huge improvement from the previous year.
U15 key achievements: 4 girls selected into the Surrey U15 squad, 12 girls selected into Surrey DPP, and 9 girls playing in UR7’s squads.
U18 key achievements: 10 girls selected into the Surrey U18 squad, 3 girls selected into Harlequins Centre of Excellence, 1 girl granted a sports scholarship to Brunel University and was also pulled into training with the Surrey Senior Women’s squad, 3 girls playing in UR7’s squads, and 2 girls selected for England U18’s!
Joining Guildfordians RFC Girls is a great way to get active and try a new sport, meet new people, become part of a thriving and friendly team, but also part of a connected girls rugby section who show support and encouragement across all age groups. We pride ourselves on welcoming new players into our club, whether you have never picked up a rugby ball before, to having years of experience – we will look after you!
For the 2023-2024 season we have U12s, U14s, U16s & U18s girls teams. A child’s age group is determined by their age at midnight on 31st August.
