Cranfordians Women remain undefeated in the league after battling against top of the league rivals

The Cranfordians Women played at home (Cranleigh) for their most recent NC3 fixture against top of the league rivals Dorking II Women. With both teams playing in the league last season, this game was nothing small of a challenge.

The team banded together, fighting off injuries to deliver a phenomenal result, enhancing their place at the top of the league.

First half: Breaking lines and scoring tries.

Cranfordians start the game with a strong kick towards the opposition. The forwards work hard, dominating scrums and lineouts, with pick and go’s allowing Ash to break Dorking’s defence and score the first try of the game.

From a strong carry by Captain Dempsey, a penalty awarded to Cranfordians, gave Anna the perfect opportunity to tap and go straight through the opposition, gaining valuable meters. Bex carried hard and allowed Becky to break the defence to power through player after player, popping off the floor to Grace who gave Cranfordians the second try.

Dorking push towards within Cranfordians 22 however, a strong defensive line and pressure force Dorking to lose meters. Unfortunately, a yellow card was given to Tabs for being too eager leading to a deliberate knock-on called. Despite being a player down Cranfordians won back territory. The force of the forwards power through Dorking from a maul at a well-executed line-out by Joss giving Crabbers the opportunity to sneak through and score a dominant third try.

A Cranfordians scrum on one side of the pitch, followed by a training ground backline move. Amazing handling by the backs gives Grace the ball. After over 50m of running, handing off multiple players, she makes a perfectly timed offload to Harried who outsprints the defence and places the ball under the posts for Cranfordians fourth try of the game. Sophie easily slots the ball through the posts to give Cranfordians a 22-0 lead at half-time.

Second half: Strong defence and team play.

Dorking come back with vengeance in the second half. Dorking steal the ball back after a knock-on and Cranfordians fought hard, with big tackles by Tabs, Laura, and Harriet but Dorking manage to find space out wide and score their first try.

Sophie puts in a huge tackle which stops Dorking in their tracks however they come back fighting. Erin and Laura work together to stop Dorking escaping down the wing. Centres Eloisa & Becky making hit after hit to stop the bolstered Dorking backline time after time. Soph making a huge hit on the opposition no 8 to stop their momentum.

End to end play for both teams, leads to a strong defensive push by Cranfordians. Harriet & Hannah manages to push Dorking off the pitch with another amazing try saving tackle. Lizzie now offered some fresh attacking options and made several meters time after time.

Dorking manage to pry the ball in the air at the line-out and lead a strong attack against the Cranfordians. Team work and power managed to hold them off after multiple rounds of battle. Eve was strong in the scrum and made some valuable tackles to stifle the attack.

After punching continuously at an aggressive Cranfordians defensive line, Dorking manage to slip through and score their second try.
Despite the strong efforts of the forwards, making ground at every scrum, and the big tackles by Vasenai and Jaida, Cranfordians were unable to add to their dominant win. Dempsey held up agonisingly over the try line after ripping the ball from Dorking.

There was time for one final try saving tackle – this time by Kim, who stopped the player on the wing 5 meter out, ending the game Cranfordians 22-10 Dorking.
