Girls’ and women’s rugby is one of the fastest-growing sports in the country. Inspired by
the success of the England Red Roses, winning the World Cup and the visibility of the
women’s game worldwide, more girls than ever are discovering rugby.
Guildfordians are proud to be leading the way locally — offering girls the opportunity
to play, grow, and fulfil their potential, whether that means enjoying the game with
friends or dreaming of international honours. The emphasis on fun and enjoyment, with a
competitive element.
The Girls’ Section – Our Story
The Guildfordians Girls’ Section was founded in 2016 by Leanne Infante, capped 57
times for England. What began with just a handful of players has grown into one of the
club’s proudest achievements, now welcoming 70–80 players across U12, U14, U16,
and U18 age groups, and now field a womens team
Leanne retired from international rugby in 2025 and has now welcomed her first child,
but she remains a true inspiration to every Guildfordian girl.
Our guiding philosophy is simple: “Girls enjoying themselves”, underpinned by the
RFU’s core values of TREDS – Teamwork, Respect, Enjoyment, Discipline,
Sportsmanship.
Achievements & Pathways
Guildfordians Girls are proving what’s possible from the only rugby club in Guildford:
- 3 players have already progressed into Premier Women’s Rugby (PWR) teams.
- International honours: last season, three girls played in the Six Nations for England and
Scotland — with more expected this year.
- Cup success: U16s and U18s regularly reach the Surrey Cup finals at the Harlequins’
Stoop.
- National recognition: strong performances in youth competitions across England.
