'Serious Fun'

The U16 Guildfordians Girls rugby squad are finishing a hugely successful season in style, by playing the Surrey Waterfall Cup Final, at The Twickenham Stoop, home of Harlequins RFC, on the evening of Wednesday, April 19th.

Wining their annual Girls Festival In October at Stoke Park, gave the girls a fantastic start to the season.

The Guildfordians Girls have earnt the honour to play at The Twickenham Stoop, by winning all 5 Pool matches, with an average of 49 points for and only 2 points conceded per match.

This perfect winning streak in the Surrey Cup included Bonus Point Wins over local rivals Farnham RFC, and Guildford RFC.

The Guildfordians U16s Girls Lead coach, Jason Hillier said:

"We are so proud of our squad, who just want to have 'serious fun' with their mates and enjoy playing rugby in a friendly team culture.

We pride ourselves on being totally inclusive, and ensure the RFU core values, TREDS, are at the heart of all we do.

TREDS are about Teamwork, Respect ,Enjoyment, Discipline and Sportsmanship.

We have a very close knit and strong squad mentality at Guildfordians, illustrated by the fact that the whole squad (including our injured players) will make the walk down the tunnel from the Harlequins changing rooms to the hallowed turf of the Twickenham Stoop on match night. “

The Final will be played against Old Reigatians RFC, and is a repeat of last season's Surrey Waterfall Cup final, which was played at Stoke Park. The fact that this season's final is to be played at The Twickenham Stoop is testament to how the girls and womens game is growing!

There have been some strong additions to the team this season, as well as a number of players back from injury, and they have developed as a squad, so we are confident we can change the result this time.

13 of the 22 strong Guildfordians U16 squad are part of the U16 England Regional Developing Player Program (ERDPP), through Surrey Rugby, and have played representative matches this season against Sussex, Hampshire, Hertfordshire and Middlesex.

Iona Hancock, the Guildfordians U16s Captain said:
“Having previously run out as a mascot for the Harlequins Womens team in the The Game Changer, four years ago, I am incredibly proud and excited to be leading out the Guildfordians U16 Girls, as a player, for the first Surrey County Final to be played at the home of Harlequins. This is testament to how the profile of womens, and girls rugby is growing. It is an exciting time to be involved in the game”

The Guildfordians Girls, and recently formed Women’s section (U23s & Women’s), was started by, and still led by Leanne Infante, Saracens and England Red Rose player. The section is very strong across all age groups and always welcoming to new players, of all experience and abilities.

Kick off on the 19th April is now 20:00 @ the Twickenham Stoop ( home of Quins ) on the first team pitch, free parking in the Rosbine Car Park and free entry.
