Guildfordians walking rugby welcome Old Reigatians on the coldest day
Friday 10th Dec 21Saturday 27 November, 7.00am – Driving sleety rain...not the most auspicious start to the day!
10.15am – the eco-friendly Chiddingfold contingent of Guildfordians RFC arrive at the clubhouse in one vehicle. Some Old Reigatians are already at Stoke Park, turning blue. These guys are keen! Guildfordians Brian is setting out the pitches – alone. Others think about going to help but are driven back inside by the biting wind – supervision from the bar seems infinitely preferable.
11.00am - we have 15 Old Reigatians and 17 Guildfordians so split into 4 teams of 8 so that everyone is on the pitch (not a day to be dallying on the touch line). Each team plays 2 games in the friendliest of spirits – thanks all. Then mulled wine to warm our cockles before back to the pitches for final games between baa-baas teams of mixed up Guildfordians and Old Reigatians players.
Off to the changing rooms to get rid of muddy gear (kudos to the brave soul who risked the showers) & then to the bar for imbibing, refuelling & socialising. Thanks to Old Reigatians for turning out on the coldest day of the year & for playing walking rugby like Guildfordians do – competitively whilst being very sociable. We look forward to a return visit in 2022.
