U18 Girls Ready 4 Rugby Tourament
Created : 1st May 21

Surrey Rugby set up a Ready 4 Rugby tournament on Sunday, 25th April 2021, at Imber Court.

Guildfordians fielded two U18 Girls teams of 11 players each - team Red and team Yellow. A total of 8 x U 18 Girls team entered the tournament from across Surrey and we were split into two groups with one of our teams in each group.

Team Red started the day off against Warlingham A with the first fixture and illustrated fantastic running rugby and handling skills to score 7 tries to 1. Team Yellow followed team Red's lead with an impressive display against Chobham and playing a clever game plan on the narrow pitch with constant attacks down the middle to run in 5 unopposed tries.

Round 2 saw team Red take on Old Reigatians, which is always a fantastic encounter. Both teams played extremely well, but Team Red adapted some of the Yellow's game plan this time and it worked in our favour to end with 4 tries to 3 in a close encounter. Team Yellow took on Warlingham B and continued their impressive display of attacks down the middle and generating quick ball through regular pops off the floor. This led to us scoring 6 tries to 4.

Team Red took on a combined team of Farnham & Old Ruts who we have never played before. The game started frantically with scores at both sides of the pitch. Team Red showed their class in the end and started running in tries for fun due to their fantastic skill and pace. The game ended with us scoring 9 tries to 3. Team Yellow took on Wimbledon, which again is always a close affair. This was a fantastic game flowing from end to end trading tries. Wimbledon ended up scoring the winning try with the last play of the match to snatch it 4 tries to 3.

The last round had Team Red play Chobham and again our fantastic game play and distribution skills saw us running in tries for fun, ending the game with 7 tries to 1. Team Yellow took on Warlingham A in their last fixture and despite suffering two injuries, still managed to run in 6 tries to 3 to cap off an excellent day.

Our two teams combined scored 47 tries to 19 across their 8 games which is a fantastic achievement by the players - well done girls.
