Volunteering

Guildfordians Rugby Club is run by a fantastic group of volunteers both on and off the pitch and we are always looking for more volunteers. If you are interested we are looking for these roles :

Minis Chairman
The Minis Section encompasses Micros through to Under 11's and the Chair is the Club representative for the Section. The role is predominantly an extension of an age group admin. Some enquiries come through to Section Chair rather than the relevant age group. This is simply a case of pointing them to the correct age group.

The Section Chair's are part of the Club's Executive Committee, so there is an expectation to attend Committee meetings and help develop the Governance of the Club. We are currently discussing these meetings becoming once every 2 months, with the opportunity for the Section Chair to hold a section meeting with their Head Coaches, if needed, in the alternate months. The Chair is the link between the Coaches and the Committee. If there are any queries or problems the Coaches should always go to their Head Coach first, then the Section Chair if needed, who can take it further up the chain if required.

The Minis Section is responsible for some of the social activities throughout the year and the home festivals, but this is an overseeing task rather than the Chair organising themselves. Delegation is key!

This list is by no means exhaustive and some "ad hoc" duties will no doubt come up, but the above is the bulk.

Club Treasurer
The role pretty much speaks for its self, it involves the payment of invoices, notifying people of payments, creating budgets and monitoring profit and loss using the Xero software package.

The role also involves the creation of the end of years treasurers report for the AGM.

The Treasurer is a part of the Club's Executive Committee, so there is an expectation to attend Committee meetings and help develop the Governance of the Club.

Entrance to the Recreation Ground is more or less opposite the Village Hall in Coxcombe Lane.

Walking Rugby is probably the most inclusive rugby format to be played in a Guildfordians shirt and was launched in 2018. The sport is growing rapidly in popularity across the UK and Ireland as a non-contact game open to adults of all ages, genders and abilities. Our current squad includes members from their mid-20s to mid-70s.

Walking rugby is attracting new members to the club from Guildford and surrounding villages. It’s a great form of exercise and, most importantly, lots of fun! Despite its name, walking rugby is a great cardio workout and caters for all speeds from slow and steady to as fast as you can walk keeping one foot on the ground at all times.

Walking Rugby has a simple set of rules so it’s easy to learn whether you have played rugby before or not. As it is non-contact, teams of up to seven players are usually mixed.

Juniors Upcoming Fixtures

The current season has ended but Touch and Walking rugby are still taking place. Details about the different versions of rugby can be found on our About page.

Men's rugby starts at the end of August with preseason starting in July.

Minis, Girls and Youth rugby starts on the first Sunday in September, some Youth and Girls teams are doing pre season training over the Summer please check with their coaches.
