Guildfordians U18s Girls in the Waterfall CupThe Guildfordians U18 Girls entered the Surrey Girls Cup along with seven other Surrey Teams. We were drawn in Group B where we would play 3 pool games before finals day on 24th April 2022.

Round 1 vs Sutton & Epsom:
On 23rd January 2022 we took on S&E on their main 1st team pitch. We have not played a match since middle December, but the team has been training hard and came into the game nervous, but full of confidence after a strong run in the National Cup Pool stages. We had some fantastic games against S&E over the years so everyone was looking forward to this game. The Girls put in one of our best performances to date to beat a strong S&E team 0 – 50. Had it not been for some terrific last ditch tackling by their full back, we could have added another 3
or 4 tries to our actual tally of 8 unanswered tries. Player of the match as voted by our players was a tie between Ruby and Charlotte. Both scored a try each and I am sure the whole S&E team will be having.....More

Guildfordians are the Surrey Walking Rugby Champions! On Saturday 30th April, 11 teams from 6 Surrey clubs, plus a few invited squads from old friends outside the county, came together for the inaugural Surrey Walking Rugby tournament, held this year at Esher RFC.

In a clean sweep, Guildfordians beat Wimbledon (2-1), Old Reigatians (3-1) Amesbury (4-1), Esher (2-1) and Chobham (4-2) to top their pool and meet old friends and rivals, Kingswood in the final. In a close fought match with both teams playing some superb rugby, it was Guildfordians who came through with a 4-3 victory to lift the Andrew Inwood trophy. Guildfordians' success was built on solid defence and praised by tournament organiser and Surrey Rugby vice-president Tyrone Lawless, as they conceded only nine tries for nineteen scored throughout the competition.

In the first walking rugby festival of the season, it was great to see so many players of all ages, gender and ability coming together to enjoy a fantastic mix of sport and social prowess and to see h.....More

The game will take place at Esher RFC with kick off set for 4:30pm. The team would be thrilled to see as many supporters as possible down, on what promises to be a fantastic day for the seniors section.

This will be the club’s first meeting since 2017 with opposition Mitcham & Carshalton, who come to the final off the back of a narrow victory over league rivals Old Paulines.

Walking Rugby fixture at RichmondDespite the efforts of accidents on the M25 & multiple councils doing their utmost to spend their roadworks budgets before year-end, 12 of us made it safely to the Old Deer Park & met 10 players from Richmond (who are recent converts to walking rugby). After a brief warmup, it became clear that Richmond have been playing different rules (including 6 tackles) so we decided to play 2 sessions to their version & 2 sessions to ours. It quickly became apparent that they play with the same spirit as Guildfordians so everyone enjoyed the games. After the 4 sessions, we then played a game with mixed squads - players fitted seamlessly together.

After the games, we graced the sports bar & 6 of us stayed on to watch the 1st XV match, courtesy of free tickets from our hosts. It was enjoyable though a bit chilly - unfortunately our hosts were beaten by a well-drilled Coventry team.

Our thanks to Vaughan for arranging, Liam for being press ganged into reffing & all at Richmond .....More

Guildfordians Walking Rugby Fit For AllIts winter. Its Tuesday evening. Its dark and cold, and damp. I can see the pitch from my car, which is warm and comfortable. I think “Why do people like me want to go and chase a rugby ball around on a night like this?”
But I do get out of the car, and go to the pitch. My spirits rise as I see the other players. As soon as I have the ball in my hands, I get a buzz.
Then I realize, here, there aren’t “people like me”. This is as diverse a bunch of people you might hope to find. Young and not so young; men and women; former players and new to the game; different attitudes to playing Walking Rugby.

I sense there is a big story behind Guildfordians Walking Rugby. To start telling the story, I’ve collected quotations from many of the players. I’ve grouped them by decade of birth. I hope I got everyone right! By way of recognition and reward, a song title I hope you like. If you belong to that decade – this is your song.

Finally, there’s a group of quotes that simp.....More

First Aid Course Saturday 18th June 2022 - Course Now FullWe are holding another accredited First Aid Course which takes between 5 and 6 hours and is valid for 3 years on Saturday 18th June 2022. The Course will be held at the club house and will be instructed by me.

The aim is to have at least 1 RFU qualified first aider in each team in addition to the existing first aiders we have.

The cost of the course will be covered by the club.

The EFARU course provides learners with the skills, knowledge and understanding required to give care and manage minor injuries and illness and potentially life threatening conditions specifically focusing on those occurring in a rugby environment. The EFARU course sits on the national qualification framework and is recognised as an equivalent to the Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) and is transferable into the work place. Request to verify email addresses on the RFUs GMS systemA number of members will get an email today from the RFU's GMS system asking them to verify their email addresses via a link on an email. This is the same process that most online retailers use.
A lot of accounts were never sent the link as the accounts were created on the system before GMS but the RFU now need the data verified.

This news article is just to make you aware that it is not a dodgy email and that it is an RFU requirement that all email addresses are verified on the system.

Thank you in advance.

Guildfordians Welcome the Future England RFU PresidentOn Saturday 29 January, Guildfordians RFC welcomed back ex-player and the next President of the English RFU, Nigel Gillingham, to a packed lunch at their clubhouse on Stoke Park.

Nigel played at the club in the 1970’s before going on to play for Leicester where he played in the second row alongside famous names in rugby such as (the now) Sir Clive Woodward, Peter Wheeler and many other internationals in that famous Leicester Team that dominated the 70’s.
That Leicester team won the John Player Cup in the 1980s and Nigel won the Middlesex sevens with Loughborough. He also played for England Schools.

Nigel’s term as President of the RFU will commence in the summer.
Nigel spoke of his plans for his term to continue to develop the game and of his time playing at Guildfordians and remembered fondly some of the ex-players at that time.
Trevor Greenwood, Guildfordians’ Chairman, said “It was really great to be able to welcome Nigel back to Guildfordians rugby,.....More

U15 Girls - National Cup v HitchinSunday is a day of rest unless you are a parent/coach for the U15 girls in the last 16 of the nation cup.
We travelling up the M25 and then the A1 well some of us took the M1 and really shouldn’t have but we made it to our hosts at Hitchin and were ready for the match kick off 1.30.

A Great start for Guildfordians using the line gave Jasmine the space to race up the wing and score the opening try underneath the posts which allowed Charlotte convert 0-7.

The rest of the first half was tougher, Hitchin had worked hard on scrums and set pieces, which allowed them to dominate and they scored 4 try’s and converted 2 so we went into half time 24-7 down.

The girls regrouped, kept their heads high, and showed great team spirit to come back with a combined effort of Sophie and Charlotte which saw Charlotte go over the line and then convert her own try. She followed this up a few minutes later with another try but narrowly missed the conversion 24-19.

Walking Rugby at GuildfordiansGetting More - Giving More - Planning More

Exciting news from our Walking Rugby section!

First let’s talk about Getting More

The Walking Rugby section is delighted to announce two new sponsors. One is Curtis Packaging, a U.K. based organisation with sustainability at its core. The other is the global information technology and services corporation, Hewlett Packard Enterprise. The Hewlett Packard Enterprise sponsorship is one of largest packages ever granted to Guildfordians.

Why are Curtis Packaging and Hewlett Packard Enterprise supporting Guildfordians Walking Rugby? Because both companies recognise Walking Rugby as an accessible and inclusive activity, providing physical and mental health benefits both on and off the field, is a positive force in the community. Both sponsoring companies want Walking Rugby to grow, and both recognise our ability to drive the growth of Walking Rugby in the South-East of England.
